Guess how I spent my Saturday?
I canNot believe that we're into July and all I've done in my gardens is pull a few weeds here and there.
What a mess!
So I spent a few hours weeding and doing a bit of trimming, and then I started in on the edging. Edging is hard work but oh so worth it. Your garden can be the worst piece of crap on the block, but spend some time on the edging and I guarantee it'll end up looking at least 25% better
Okay, maybe not 25%. How about 10? whatever ... it WILL look better.
See? Much nicer. Neat and tidy.
(ignore the grass that needs cutting ... sshhhhh)
I was in and out of the garden from around 8am until almost 4pm and then I had to stop. I got a little sidetracked.

Not good. Not good at all!
On a sidenote? Reason #192 why this project is good for you: you grow some pretty big balls. Never in a million years would you normally catch me this close to hornets. No way. I even grabbed the garden shears and trimmed away some shrub branches that were blocking my view. I did. That's bigballness right there.
Anyways, if you're fond of hornets you'll be saddened to hear that they have moved on to a ... err ... better place.
Tomorrows agenda? More of the same.
Minus the hornets.

Ugh. They look like aliens (your first shot, on the other hand, looks very quaintly human and like it belongs on the cover of a gardening magazine). But they're eerily pretty.
That is the great thing about photography, though, yeah? Makes you super brave. My mom thought the same thing, and then broke her ankle getting "the" shot.

and watching the hornets was actually pretty fascinating. In a totally goosebumpy kind of way. ick.
Okay,I have some serious heeby jeebies now! I hate stingy bugs of all kinds. In fact, I hate them so much that after I found several wasps in my porch and one in my *gasp* house, I actually bought one of those fake wasp nests you hang in your yard to scare them away. The theory is that wasps are very territorial and if they see a nest they will scram. I was skeptical but desperate...much to my delight it actually worked like a charm! Then again I wasn't looking for photo opps. You are brave, oh intrepid photographer. Oh so brave.
I've heard that, and I left the nest there. The question is though - how big is their 'territory'???? LOL!
I had no idea you could buy fake ones!!! I'd be all over that! As it is, I have traps all over the place. pffftttt ... obviously that works well.
No, no, traps just attract them! And to top it off, if they hear one of their own in distress they can go into fight mode...YIKES!!! Yup, you can buy big old fake ones (I got two for 5.99 from the local garden centre)...haven't seen a wasp since!
Fight mode? shut UP!!! omg that's crazy! and? I saw stray ones all day today checking out the nest. Made me very uneasy. LOL!
