around the web

If you're anything like I am, you have a gazillion shots sitting on your hard drive with big plans of what you're going to do with them (or most often, no plan at all) and somehow your shots never see the light of day beyond internet posting and sharing.

The shame of it all!

The Savvy Photographer brings you inside the home of Ria Czichotzki from Rialee Photography.  Check out what she has done with some of her fabulous shots and get a little bit inspired.

And then, if you really want to turn green with envy and drool all over your keyboard, check out her studio.  omg LOVE!

Finally, I am absolutely LOVING this project.  I have a small collection of vintage look frames that I keep adding to with (again) the idea of a photo wall in mind.  Alas, they're currently stacked up in my garage.  Amber has done an awesome job with her fabulous wall of frames and gives some great tips on her blog.  Go see!

I Heart Faces has a great tutorial from the talented Rita of Coffeeshop fame here.  I Heart RITA!

And while you're browsing around at I Heart Faces, keep in mind that Week 8 of their Photo Challenge starts on the 22nd.  The theme is "hands on" and I already have a few ideas floating around.  Fun!

makeuseof.com is offering An Idiot's Guide to Photoshop, free in PDF format.  Download Part1 here and Part2 here.  There's some really awesome info in there for newbies and refreshers for seasoned users who may have forgotten their basics along the way.

Around the Web is a mixed bag of stuff I find and like, well, around the web!  Nobody pays me for this stuff.  Nobody asks me to do it.  These are MY picks that I want to share with you.

elusive {50/365}

This is the third time I've been down to the railway station, trying to get a shot of this engine.  Mother Nature is not cooperating with me and I have yet to figure out what I'm doing wrong with the exposure.

But you know what?  I like it better in black and white anyways.  Stick it, Mother Nature :)

I was messing around earlier (when am I NOT messing around?) making some digital elements for scrapbooking and I made this for my 365Project ...

which I thought looked pretty cool.  But when I put it on the photo,

I don't think it looks right.  It's distracting, isn't it?  I see other people do stuff like that and I think it looks great.  Hence the wasted hour spent making mine ... LOL!

I dunno.  What do you think?

EDIT:  forgot to post the original shot!  LOL!!!

So yeah, I cropped it to get rid of the building and make the engine more of the focal point, and added a bit of a glow to the black and white version.  But see what I mean about the exposure?  I'm getting the train nice and black (she's a beauty) but the dismal sky and crappy snow are wonky.

Try, try again!  I think I'll have more luck in summer.

fake it {40/365}

Fake it is what you do during a cold February in Canada (not THAT kind of fake it - get yer minds out of the gutter).  Fake flowers!

You can almost tell what the weather is like here from my shots.  Two stills in a row tells you it's really cold outside and I don't want to go out there!

And of course, I played around with some textures and whatnot ...

Textures from Shadowhouse Creations (Skeletal Mess) and Paree EricaAli Edwards official font.

Sunflowers from my bathroom :)

I think I may stop uploading my photos through wordpress.  The images aren't as clear as they are on flickr.  Any ideas why?
