green [11/52]

Totally late with my post this week, but not my photos! I had way too much fun driving around on St Paddy's Day to miss this week's focus52 prompt, 'green'.

The first stop I made was at my girlfriend's restaurant, where I made her pour me a green beer. I took a few photos, but I liked this one best, with it's hint of sunlight and the view from my side of the bar.

When I was done, she asks me "do you want this?" with a look on her face that says she already knows the answer. You can keep your green beer, woman. It's only pretty to look at.

Heading home, down one of the downtown back streets, I spotted these two hanging out, getting their green on.

I pretty much stopped traffic, jumping out of my car to catch these guys. "Hey! can I take your picture?" I yelled. "Do you know my wife?" one of them answered.

Har-har.

Next stop was the nursery, where I couldn't resist a pretty potted shamrock.

Such a cute little plant. And it's still alive, three days later. Has to be some sort of luck involved there. heh. Couldn't resist some texture work here either, with a couple of gorgeous ones from Kim Klassen.
Thanks Kim!

Finally? A fitting end to St Paddy's Day ...

They're magically delicious, y'know.

Actually, they were. I love Lucky Charms.

And that was my day. A far cry from my days of slinging beer and coming home with green colored hands. Times sure have changed!

And thank goodness for that :)

variety [10/52]

Still feeling under the weather, today rolled around and found me without a shot for this week's prompt.

A trip to the donut shop solved that problem :)

Now that's my kind of variety (a fact my ever expanding ass can attest to).

My Husband, on hearing my plan, said "you're going to go buy a dozen donuts just so you can take a picture of them?" (I mean seriously, where has this man been for the past 16 months???) to which I simply replied, "yes".

He thought it was a stupid idea.

At this moment, right now, there are five donuts left in that box.

And I only had one.

Yeah, what a stupid idea :)

beautifully aged [9/52]

There's nothing I like better than taking an everyday photo and transforming it into something special with a few beautiful textures. So for this week's focus52 prompt, 'aged', I did just that ...

I plucked a few flowers out of my still thriving birthday bouquet (sent all the way from Florida from my girl, Cher! love her) and arranged them in a vintage glassware piece (origins totally unknown). A few textures later and I have something entirely different than the photo that came out of  my camera, even though I kept the effects fairly subtle and light.

Using textures is one of my very favorite things to do with photos.

What about you? Do you have a favorite post-processing technique?

Textures from Kim Klassen and Tammy Lee Bradley. Thank you, ladies!

celebrate [8/52]

Thank you, each and every one of you, for sharing my birthday with me this week. It's meant so much to me and I can't even begin to explain how very touched I am.

Much, much love.
xoxo

Mr Demille, I'm ready for my close-up [7/52]

Yeah, not really. But I do have a director's chair :)

Visiting with my macro lens for this week's prompt had me wishing for Summer and my garden. With around three or four feet of snow still in my yard, that's not happening anytime soon.

So I took the opportunity to try a few so-called 'cliche' shots that I've always wanted to try but never really got around to.

First up, the eyes (eye?) have it ...

Gorgeous hazel peepers courtesy of my daughter's girlfriend. The girls know by now that nobody is safe from my lens. heh. And I've learned that these types of shots are hard! but whatever, it'll do :)

I've always wanted to try the threaded needle thing, but never really got around to it.

It was fun! and I couldn't resist a 'not-so-close-up' shot. What is it about a needle and colourful thread? It's so appealing to me.

And although my garden is, sadly, only a dim memory from last year, at least I had some Valentine roses to play with. Really, what's a 'close up' prompt without the requisite floral shot?

I'm not a huge fan of roses, but these ones sure are beautiful. So pretty.

So this was fun! A bit of a challenge all week though, looking for something in my house to photograph that I haven't already.

And I just want to say, you guys have no idea how hard it was for me to NOT put any textures on those last two photos. Killing me! Seriously. Don't be surprised if you see them pop up again, all dressed up.

They're all but yelling at me to do it :)
