rockin' robin {130/365}

And his wife?

from day 130

These two have been hanging around for a few days.  They're nesting in my juniper, same place they nest every year.  And every year something happens to their babies. I found bones and feathers outside my window one Spring.  It wasn't pretty.

But speaking of pretty, check out my crab-apple tree blooming! yay!  I love that tree.  I wish it bloomed all summer.

umm ... where was I?  oh yeah ...

I haven't seen much of these two this year until now.  And then the other day there they were in my backyard.

And their baby was on my deck!

(no I don't have pictures and no, I don't want to discuss it *coughblurrycrapcough*)

Cutest little thing, kind of hopping/flying about.  Mama was feeding him (again, no pictures, don't want to talk about it).  They stayed for a bit and then left.

Later that day, I opened the back door to let Daisy out, not thinking of robins in the slightest.

Immediate flurry of wings, baby running then flying off the edge of the deck, mama and papa screeching to beat the band and circling and diving at DaisyPuppy who was totally oblivious and just wanted to play, me screaming at the dog, birds screaming at the dog and their baby, and DaisyPuppy running around in circles barking her fool head off.

Complete and utter chaos.

Daisy didn't get anywhere near the baby, but I haven't seen it around here since.  Last I saw, it hadn't cleared my fence and had kind of fluttered down the side of it but I've looked and there's no sign of it anywhere.

Mama and Papa are still hanging around.

And in my guilt I've forgiven them for flying at my head whilst trying to rescue the damn dog.

I hope your baby is okay guys.  Maybe you should give some serious thought to finding a new tree one of these years?

It's obviously not all that safe around here.

silhouette {127/365}

This is certainly not the most ummm ... man, I don't even have a word for what this is...

127/365

Not my usual thing?   All I know is I really like him!  He almost wound up on the cutting room floor, but something about him made me keep coming back.  He makes me grin.

Besides, I'm not sure that I really have a 'usual thing' anyways.  Nor do I think I want one!  I work pretty well, all over the map.  It suits me.  heh.

I used a few textures from Skeletal Mess whose creativity and generosity are legend, and brushed on some white in the middle area to give some focus and depth.

stormy {125/365}

So you're walking along, looking for something (anything) to shoot for the day, when you look up and see this ...

stormy - from day125

And within a few more minutes things turn crazy like this ...

stormy - from day125

And you hightail it inside because you don't look your best when soaking wet.

Soon though, the skies begin to clear ...

stormy - from day125

and the birdies come back and start to sing ...

stormy - from day125

and you play in the water and find your shot for the day ...

125/365

But then a little while later, you see this happening and run for your camera again ...

stormy - from day125

and when you turn around you find that this has been going on behind your back ...

stormy - from day125

and you cry that you don't have a wide lens, think briefly about pots of gold and leprachauns, and make a sandwich.

The End :p

flying seeds {113/365}

Busy day today, and not a shot taken until about 2 hours ago when I ran out to get some groceries.

I took this from the car while I was backing out of my driveway.  Wait, that doesn't sound right.  I did stop first, then shoot.  heh.  One wonders, right?

113/365

This is my neighbour's bird feeder.

It's beside my neighbour's magnolia.

umm ... yeah.  Good thing for my neighbour, right?

Anyway .. it's not much of a shot, but I thought it was really cool that I caught the seed flying.  I had to crop in tight to make him big enough (never a zoom lens handy when you need one) so I don't know if you can make that out here.  Honest, there's seeds flying around.  Itty bitty ones.  *ahem.

And speaking of the magnolia, I've still been taking shots of it, tracking it's progress.  Waiting for it to bloom is like watching paint dry, I swear.  I think that, had the weather not been so up and down, it probably would've done something by now.

And since I have another busy day tomorrow, that's probably what you'll be seeing here.

Magnolia buds, not wet paint.

nesting {105/365}

My little feathered friend returned today.

105/365

And he brought his wife!

105-(2)

Look at her looking at me.  I don't think she's too pleased with my photo taking activities.

(get in line Mama Bird)

They're building their home somewhere around here.  I tried to get her with the building supplies in her beak but she's pretty quick.

Oh!  And there are signs of life on the magnolia!  omg finally!  I saw one in full flippin' bloom today,on my way into town and I thought, what the hell?  Apparently this one is camera shy?

We'll see what tomorrow brings.
