september [36/52]

September, to me, means new beginnings. It's that back to school state of mind that never really goes away, no matter how old you are.

But please tell me, how did my girl get to be this old? How?

I've done these first day of school shots since, well, her first day of school. Up until this year, she's held up how many fingers for whatever grade she was in.

This year, we ran out of fingers.

I tell ya, seems like grade six was just last year :(

For all of the feelings of having a fresh start that September brings, it also sadly heralds the end of blissful summer days.

Yep, the days are getting shorter ...

and the critters are stocking up ...

and yet, everywhere you look, Mother Nature is still putting on a show ...

(allergy sufferers, look away)

I'm sad to see summer wind down, but I have to say that Autumn is my most favorite time of year.

I'm looking forward to cozy sweaters and painted trees :)

love, baby! [6/52]

I've been feeling a bit of a creative funk since I finished my 365 project at the end of 2010. Since I'm running a creative project this year - focus52 - losing my mojo is not something I like to readily admit! But it happens to all of us at one point or another. Several times, in fact.

I've just never had it last this long before.

Maybe it was the 'at loose ends' feeling I had, come January 1st, or maybe it's just because it's omg cold outside and I feel the need to hibernate. Whatever it is/was, this week's focus52 prompt really got the creative juices flowing again.

Or maybe it was just having the pleasure of my girl's company that did it :)

It's still brutally cold outside, but there's something about balloons that just adds a bit of fun to everything.

The overlays on the walls (words and hearts) are my own, something I played around with this week.
Kind of fun, right?

and did you know that balloons really do sink like the proverbial 'lead' balloon when it's this cold out? Fact :)

I should have kept count of how many times we jumped in and out of the car to get these shots. Warm up, run outside, snap a few shots, freeze, run back to the car, lather-rinse-repeat. But we got tired of that pretty quickly and went in search of a better location.

And we found the sun ...

What a difference! And that's when I felt it coming back. Finally! Sunshine will do that to you. Sunshine, gorgeous red colours, my girl ... what's not to love?

This is my favorite shot from the day and the one I chose to reflect on with the Mortal Muses.

It's not like any love you've known before. Not like the love you first felt from your parents when you were little, or the puppy love in sixth grade. It's not the butterflies in your stomach when you're a young girl or the deep and lasting kind you're lucky to find as a woman.

No, this love comes along and blindsides you. This love turns your world upside down, grabs hold of your heart, and never, ever lets it go. And from the moment you set eyes on her, you're inspired to be a better person, a better woman. For her.

Click on over there and have a read, will you? Thanks so much to muse Maureen for inviting me over for the day. I had such a great time taking these shots and writing a little bit on Love. Thank you for giving me the kick-start I was sorely needing. Truly what being a Muse is all about.

Valentine's Day is on Monday. I have a feeling you haven't seen the last of all things 'love' around here.

EDIT: Tammy Lee Bradley of Bliss & Folly featured my first shot up there on her blog today. Thanks Tammy! What a perfect surprise :)

my favorite face {278/365}

When Love That Shot put up this week's challenge, 'Your Favorite Face', the first words out of my mouth to my girl were

"your face is mine, sometime this week - don't make plans"

Such a loving Mom ;)

my favorite face 278/365

Her's is, undoubtedly, my favorite face.

Much loved.

Have you visited  yet?  because you really should ;)

fall fun {276/365}

I took some shots of the leaves on the sidewalks yesterday (so cliche but I can't help myself), and when I was looking at them today, I realized I really wanted a person in there somewhere. All blurry in the backround, y'know?

See?

276

Pretty, yes.  But it needs a body.

(not this one though ... unless you're an elf)

So I asked daughter to come out with me today so I could go back.  And wouldn't you know, when we got there, somebody had been all Mr. CleanUp and the sidewalks were bare, all the leaves sitting in a pile on the grass.

I said, "you think they'd be mad if I put them back on the sidewalk?"

"umm, yeah Mom".

Bummer.

There's no shortage of leaves around here though, so we went elsewhere.

And I got my shot.

Sorta.

The other street was prettier.

Right beside her, there on the left, was a HUGE yard. Utterly gorgeous with huge old trees and OMG a tire swing ... I died. I wanted to knock on the door and rent their property. Or kick them out. Or something.

Beg?

Whatever, we did take a few steps in (honestly, it was still a good quarter mile or so to their house) and had some fun.

Who can resist tossing leaves?

They go up ...

276 (4)

and then they come down :)

fall fun 276/365

(That last one is my shot for the day, although I couldn't decide between it and the one before it. Still can't, actually. Nothing new there, right?)

And because I couldn't resist and I don't have enough to do with my time (oh how I wish) I had to go ahead and do this ...

276 (6)

Triple threat. You better believe it.

Actually, maybe that one should be my shot for the day.

hmmm ....

Have I mentioned I love Fall the best?

I love Fall the best :)

fall fair, take two {250/365}

There's a reason I'm posting a shot from yesterday.

Y'see, today was back to school day, and since daughter started school way back in JK, every year I take the traditional back to school, leaving in the morning, shot. Every single year.
And today was no exception.

The only exception is that she just may murdilate me in my sleep should I post those photos here.

So ... here's a pony :)

fall fair, take two 250/365

Wouldn't he have made a great shot for the timeworn prompt at the Sunday Creative?

hmmmm ... wonder if it's too late to switch. heh.
