thankful [47/52]

If you were to ask me what I am most thankful for in my life, I wouldn't hesitate to answer that it is my daughter. Hands down.

But you just try to get some camera time with her ;)

I'm thankful for a lot of things... love, friends, family, a roof over my head and a comfortable life. I try not to take these things for granted.

But I'm especially grateful for the ability to see the beauty of it all. Grateful for the moments when I stand still and breathe in the magic all around us.

And grateful for the means to show you what I see.

beauty

There's beauty in the everyday, ordinary moments.

You just have to let yourself see.

berried

During my little photo-walk around Island Lake on Saturday morning, I was grateful for the hindsight in bringing along my macro lens. I had started out with my trusty 50mm, snapping shots of scenery, boats, birds ... but then I slapped on the macro and changed my perspective. I started taking in the little things.

It's good to stop and figuratively smell the roses.

Or in this case, the berries :)

Our prompt this week for focus52 is 'thankful' and although I took this photo last week (isn't that always the way?) I am thankful for these moments when I can slow down and look at the beauty around me.

We should all do more of that.

Mr Demille, I'm ready for my close-up [7/52]

Yeah, not really. But I do have a director's chair :)

Visiting with my macro lens for this week's prompt had me wishing for Summer and my garden. With around three or four feet of snow still in my yard, that's not happening anytime soon.

So I took the opportunity to try a few so-called 'cliche' shots that I've always wanted to try but never really got around to.

First up, the eyes (eye?) have it ...

Gorgeous hazel peepers courtesy of my daughter's girlfriend. The girls know by now that nobody is safe from my lens. heh. And I've learned that these types of shots are hard! but whatever, it'll do :)

I've always wanted to try the threaded needle thing, but never really got around to it.

It was fun! and I couldn't resist a 'not-so-close-up' shot. What is it about a needle and colourful thread? It's so appealing to me.

And although my garden is, sadly, only a dim memory from last year, at least I had some Valentine roses to play with. Really, what's a 'close up' prompt without the requisite floral shot?

I'm not a huge fan of roses, but these ones sure are beautiful. So pretty.

So this was fun! A bit of a challenge all week though, looking for something in my house to photograph that I haven't already.

And I just want to say, you guys have no idea how hard it was for me to NOT put any textures on those last two photos. Killing me! Seriously. Don't be surprised if you see them pop up again, all dressed up.

They're all but yelling at me to do it :)

snowy purple Tuesday

I've been crazy busy and missing futzing around (yes that's a word, hush) with my shots. My love of textures never goes away. With this shot though, it looks like the texture has totally taken over the photo, but no, that's just me screwing up. heh. I had my 100mm set at f2.8 and it shouldn't have been - hence the super narrow focus.

Live and learn ;)

I've been missing my flickr groups too. So, since it's Tuesday, this one is for one of my favorite women on flickr, the always inspiring Maureen.

Happy Purple Tuesday! :)
xoxo

keep your cool {208/365}

I received an invite today from the talented Maureen to join their new flickr group, an extension of  their cool new site, Mortal Muses.

(or is it the other way around - Muses is an extension of their flickr group?)

(well now I'm confused)

(like that's new)

Their theme for this week is "stay cool"

keep your cool 208/365

You could pretend that's an ice cold beer if you prefer, but the pellegrino bottle is prettier ;)

Fun stuff, Maureen ... thanks for the invite!

At this rate with all of the groups I've joined, if you ever hear me complain of a lack of ideas or inspiration feel free to slap me in the head, okay?

PS - 100mm, not 50 ;)
